How do I find out my car's exact consumption rate?
The most accurate way: fill the fuel tank completely, reset the trip meter, and drive normally until you need to refuel again. Then divide the distance covered by the liters of the second fill-up to get km/liter, or divide the fill-up liters by the distance×100 to get liters/100km. Many modern cars display this figure directly on the dashboard.
What's the difference between liters/100km and km/liter?
Liters/100km measures the fuel needed to cover 100 kilometers (the lower the number, the more fuel-efficient the car) — the common measure in Europe and the Gulf. Km/liter measures the distance you can cover with one liter (the higher the number, the more fuel-efficient the car) — common in manufacturer specifications. You can use either one in the calculator.
How do I calculate my daily or monthly commute cost?
Enter the one-way distance (from home to work, for example), choose "round trip" if you return to the same point, then enter the number of repeats (e.g. 22 working days per month) in the "number of repeats" field to get the full monthly cost in one go.
Why does the calculator show carbon emissions?
To help you understand the environmental impact of your actual fuel consumption, not just the financial cost. The estimate is calculated using the standard emissions factor adopted by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): about 2.31 kg CO₂ per liter of gasoline burned, and 2.68 kg CO₂ per liter of diesel.
